Harvey Elliott starts as Liverpool get big injury boost for Burnley game

Jordan Henderson returns for Liverpool as they host Burnley in front of an expected full house at Anfield.

The Reds captain sat out last week’s 3-0 win over Norwich City but is back in the side as Anfield welcomes back around 54,000 for the first time since March 2020.

Henderson hasn’t played a competitive game for Liverpool since limping out of the defeat to Everton at Anfield back in February but is restored to the midfield today as Naby Keita keeps his place.

Harvey Elliott is also included in midfield as Jurgen Klopp makes two changes from the side that beat the Canaries last week.

That means Diogo Jota keeps his place up top alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane with Virgil van Dijk partnering Joel Matip for the former’s first Anfield appearance in the Premier League for close to 11 months.

As expected, Kostas Tsimikas continues to deputise for Andy Robertson at left-back, despite the Scotland captain’s return to training this week.

But in a big boost for Liverpool, Robertson makes the bench after rapid injury progress. Thiago Alcantara is also back among the substitutes.

The club confirmed James Milner misses out with a "slight knock", while Fabinho is absent on compassionate grounds.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Henderson, Keita, Elliott; Salah, Mane, Jota.

Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Konate, Thiago, Firmino, Gomez, Jones, Minamino, Robertson.
