Harvey Elliott set to start for Liverpool at MK Dons as host of Reds starlets make trip

Summer signing Harvey Elliott is among eight young players who could make their senior debuts for Liverpool at MK Dons on Wednesday night, with the ex-Fulham starlet expected to start the game.

The teenager has been included in the squad for the trip to Buckinghamshire, where goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and forward Rhian Brewster are certain to start the Carabao Cup third round tie.

Elliott became the youngest player to play in the competition when he appeared for Fulham in a third round tie against Millwall last season at the age of 15 years and 174 days.

Exactly one year on to the day, Elliott is set to start at Stadium MK as Klopp has left a host of his senior stars back on Merseyside to prepare for Saturday's trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Centre-back Sepp van den Berg is less likely to appear from the start as defenders Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez look set to be given much-needed game-time, and elsewhere there is a healthy sprinkling of young talent in the squad.

As well as Elliott, Van den Berg, Kelleher and Brewster, the Liverpool Echo report that academy stars Leighton Clarkson, Herbie Kane and Luis Longstaff are in the squad, as is left-back Adam Lewis.

Curtis Jones, Ki-Jana Hoever and Pedro Chirivella are also said to be involved in the squad.

Jones and Hoever both made their senior bows in last season's FA Cup third round defeat to Wolves at Molineux.

Spaniard Chirivella, 22, has played five games for the Reds first-team, but none since a 3-1 Premier League defeat at Swansea City in May 2016.
