Harvey Elliott sends cryptic message to Levi Colwill to fuel Liverpool transfer talk

Harvey Elliott has fuelled speculation that Liverpool could make a move for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.

The centre-back is currently away with England under-21s, who booked their place in the final with a 3-0 win over Israel on Wednesday evening. Colwill played the full 90 minutes, with Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott featuring in midfield for Lee Carsley’s side.

Colwill took to social media after the final whistle to show his pride over the Young Lions’ convincing win, “One last push! Onto the final,” he wrote. However, a reply from Harvey Elliott sparked hope that the Liverpool man could help convince Colwill to join the Reds this summer.

The midfielder replied to Colwill, “Let’s have a chat”, along with a laughing emoji, which many fans took as an indication of Elliott’s desire to see his England teammate at Anfield. Being away together on international duty, it is unclear what Elliott meant by his comment, but he followed it up with praise for the defender, calling him “some player”.

The ECHO’s sister website football.london has reported that the Reds have enquired multiple times about the defender’s availability, with the latest coming as recently as the last few days. However, new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is claimed to be keen to work with the centre-back next season.

Colwill will be looking to build on his burgeoning reputation next season after helping Brighton achieve a top six finish, with the Seagulls already seeing two bids rejected this summer. The 20-year-old made 17 appearances last term but became a key part of Roberto de Zerbi’s side in the latter part of the campaign.

Liverpool are claimed to be considering a move to bolster their defensive ranks. Manager Jurgan Klopp currently has Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez as his centre-back options, as well as the returning Sepp van den Berg and Nat Phillips.
