Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott has joined Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan deal.
The 17-year-old's chances of senior minutes under Jurgen Klopp were extremely limited following Xherdan Shaqiri's decision to stay put at Anfield this season.
With Diogo Jota joining from Wolves and Divock Origi still at the club, Elliott was faced with the prospect of playing Under-23 football for much of the season with the Reds.
The lure of first-team action with Rovers was a big factor in the decision to move to Ewood Park on a short-term deal after the Championship side contacted the Reds this week.
Liverpool, who studiously select their loan players' destinations, were believed to have been impressed with Tony Mowbray's track record of honing young talent and feel Elliott will be well-placed to develop during this season.
The champions still see the youngest player to ever feature in the Premier League as an exciting talent for the future, but with avenues to the first team blocked for now, a loan switch is viewed as ideal for all parties.
It is also thought that the relatively short distance between Blackburn and Merseyside meant that Elliott and his family did not need to relocate and Liverpool's staff can keep closer tabs on how he improves and develops while out on loan.
Elliott arrived at Liverpool in the summer of 2019 from Fulham but was given his first-team debut just a few weeks later when the Reds travelled to MK Dons in the Carabao Cup.
His two Premier League appearances last term saw him fall short of officially earning a winners' medal but the youngster was given a specially-commissioned one by Jurgen Klopp after the Reds lifted the title at home to Chelsea in July.
Meanwhile, Ben Woodburn has completed a loan move to Blackpool.
The Wales international sealed a switch on Friday and joins up with former Liverpool Under-23 boss Neil Critchley, who moved to the Seasiders from the Kirkby Academy in March.
Woodburn, who has previously spent time out on loan with Sheffield United and Oxford, had appeared close to a move to Sparta Rotterdam in Holland.
Instead, he now joins the Critchley's Tangerines until the end of the campaign.
Harry Wilson's switch to Cardiff has also been confirmed by the Reds.
One player not leaving the club on transfer deadline day, however, is Rhys Williams, who made his senior debut in the 7-2 win over Lincoln last month.
The centre-back spent last season on loan with Kidderminster but has been training regularly with Klopp's first team this season.
