Harvey Elliott makes red card claim and responds to Pascal Struijk apology

Harvey Elliott has taken to social media to defend Leeds United's Pascal Struijk after his tackle left the 18-year-old with a serious ankle injury.

Liverpool's 3-0 victory against Marcelo Bielsa's side on Sunday was overshadowed by the injury to the youngster, who will undergo surgery on his ankle.

But Elliott described it as a 'freak accident' and admitted the Whites defender didn't deserve the red card that was shown by referee Craig Pawson.

Jurgen Klopp won't be surprised as Liverpool 'new Ronaldinho' keeps £36m signing waiting

Despite the injury to Elliott, it was an assured performance from Liverpool at Elland Road as they dispatched their opponent 3-0.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the first-half before Fabinho and Sadio Mane extended their lead after the break.

But it was Joel Matip that was one of the standout performers.

The defender was integral to Salah's opening goal and no Liverpool player attempted more passes against Leeds, and none had greater accuracy.

It's no surprise that £36m summer signing Ibrahima Konate is yet to make his competitive debut for the Reds.
