Harvey Elliott responds to Instagram taunt over missing out on Premier League winners' medal

Harvey Elliott will be "celebrating as a supporter" as Liverpool lift the Premier League trophy after their match with Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The 17-year-old forward can make a maximum of four league appearances this season, having featured twice and with the Reds having two games remaining.

Premier League rules require a player to make a minimum of five appearances in order to receive a medal, so Elliott will miss out on the honour.

One Instagram user pointed this out to the former Fulham man, writing "no medal must suck so much".

But Elliott answered the comment with a smart response, as he prepares to see his boyhood club lift the league for the first time.

“[It’s] not about me lad it’s about the team,” Elliott replied to the Instagram user.

“And I’m over the moon for them all to be receiving one, they all deserve it more than anything.

“So I’m going to be celebrating as a supporter with the fans.”

Elliott's two appearances this season have come off the bench, first in January against Sheffield United then in June against Crystal Palace.

After the match with Chelsea on Wednesday when the trophy will be presented, Liverpool close the season with a trip to Newcastle.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp opened up last month on why he does not like the Premier League's rules on who deserves a winners' medal.

The German even said he would give his medal to a youngster who misses out on one of their own due to the technicality.

"They can have my medal but it is not really the right rule," Klopp said.

"What is that? We have to win football games and it is not about that. we cannot just give the appearances away here and there.

"But if they deserve a medal they will get a medal, if not from the Premier League then from me."
