Harvey Elliott pays tribute to Liverpool physio after first goal for club on return from serious injury

Harvey Elliott gave a special mention for Liverpool physio Joe Lewis after scoring his first Liverpool goal to mark his return from a long injury lay-off.

A five-month absence ended in fine style for the 18-year-old on Sunday as he smashed his maiden Reds strike past Cardiff in the FA Cup.

Elliott had earlier earned a huge reception from the Anfield faithful when coming off the bench, in his first appearance since suffering a dislocated ankle against Leeds in September.

“It’s so hard to put into words at the moment,” he told ITV after the game.

“At the end of the day it’s my job, I’ve just got to keep doing it and it’s a moment that myself and my family will remember.

“[The goal] wasn’t too bad! The man next to me [Diogo Jota] has been banging them in left, right and centre so I’ve been getting a few tips from him but it’s nice to score.

“One man most importantly was Joe Lewis at Liverpool, one of the physios. He took me in in the early hours of the morning, and we didn’t finish until late at night. He got me back strong again.

“The list goes on; a big shoutout to my family and friends as well, especially my mum and dad for supporting me throughout, and for everyone at Liverpool - even the fans for their love and support throughout.

“I’m back now and the injury is behind me.”

Elliott’s goal rounded off a 3-1 win for Liverpool over Cardiff, with Norwich next up in the fifth-round of the FA Cup.
