Harvey Elliott has explained how Jurgen Klopp told him to go and express himself while showing people who he was ahead of his loan move to Blackburn Rovers.
The England youth international left Anfield on domestic transfer deadline day to join up with Tony Mowbray's side, signing a season-long loan deal with the Ewood Park club.
The Reds boss has high hopes for the talented 17-year-old and will be watching his development in the Championship with a close eye this season.
And Elliott has now opened up on why he and Klopp knew heading to the Championship for the season was the right step to take for his career.
He said: “I spoke with the gaffer before I made the decision and he said this was the best thing for my career and to go and express myself and show people who I am.
“All the coaching staff were very positive and said they’d support me all the way, so for them to say ‘go and enjoy yourself and the experience’ I think it made it a lot better.
“It’s nice to be close by, I can stay with my family, be around them, I’m not having to move away which is a big help.”
Before continuing on the move: “The first time I heard Blackburn were in for me I was excited and 100 per cent willing to go.
“ Liverpool were behind me 100 percent, they sat me down, gave me clips from games, how Rovers play, where I could potentially be playing, and to have that background information on the club and the style of football, was really important.
“I had a chat with the gaffer, got his word, what role and responsibilities I would have, so to have that background information and a positive energy about the club was a big help in me coming here.”
Blackburn currently sit ninth in the Championship after five games and Elliott is hoping to inspire a promotion push for the former Premier League side.
He said: “There’s very talented and very technical players here so I think we can all come together as a team and push towards the end goal.”
