Harvey Elliott details Mohamed Salah advice and sets Steven Gerrard challenge

Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott has revealed how Mohamed Salah constantly pushes him in training - and also detailed his desire to following in Steven Gerrard's footsteps.

Elliott has hit the ground running at Anfield after arriving from Fulham last summer when he was just 16 years old.

The playmaker, now 17, has spent much of his time in Merseyside training with the first-team, where he has been closely monitoring Salah.

The Egyptian superstar is one of Jurgen Klopp's prized assets and has played a starring role in helping the Reds move to within two wins of clinching the Premier League title.

And Elliott has heaped praise on his teammate.

"King, I would say!" Elliott told Liverpoolfc.com when asked to describe the Egyptian. "Just because of his style of play and who he is on and off the pitch.

"Myself, looking at him in my position, I idolise him a lot.

"To be going up against him in training, I learn a lot of things from him. Even in the gym as well, he is telling me to do a higher weight, push myself even more.

"To have him in the club and around us young players, he is a really big influence."

Elliott became the youngest player in Liverpool's history to start a competitive match when handed a full debut in the League Cup win at MK Dons in September.

He was given his Premier League debut as a late substitute against Sheffield United in January - and wants to emulate the career of former skipper Gerrard.

He added: "To win everything with this club. I strive to be like a Steven Gerrard, I just want to be as big a legend as him.

"Win the Premier League, Champions League, with this amazing club. That's what I'm striving towards.

"I want to help the club in every way possible to accomplish these things.

"Jurgen Klopp? He is any player's dream to play under, to be honest.

"Many people can say that just because of who he is off the pitch, he can have a joke, he dishes the jokes out, but when it's serious and we need to focus, he brings the best out of everyone."
