Liverpool fans issue demand to FSG after Trent Alexander-Arnold signs new deal

On Friday evening Liverpool announced that Trent Alexander-Arnold signed a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until 20205, with the Echo understanding that he will now be amongst the top earners at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold's previous deal expired in 2024, but the contract is a clear reward for his over performances over the past five years that has seen him labelled as one of the best right-backs in world football.

Upon the announcement of his deal, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to demand that Jordan Henderson is next in the queue for extended his current terms at Anfield.

There was early signs of a potential contract dispute last week as it emerged that Henderson's entourage and the club had rather unsatisfactory early talks around the captain's contract situation.

Henderson turned 31 in June and has two years left on his current deal.

Liverpool midfielder compared to Xavi and Andres Iniesta after pre-season showing

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has heaped huge praise on Liverpool's teenage sensation as he compared the 18-year-old to two of the games greatest ever midfielders, Xavi and Andreas Iniesta.

"His best position is a million dollar question. For me I do see - and these are big names coming out - I do see Xavi and Iniesta in him. I see Thiago as well, that kind of player developing.

"When I say that, I see a player who can see a pass, is comfortable on the ball - he’ll have it in a phone box. He always wants to get on it, his head’s on a swivel always looking around but he can execute."

The former Blackburn man couldn’t have heaped any higher praise - and potentially expectation - on his performance post-match, but the former Republic of Ireland international did also emphasise the importance of Elliott's spell at Ewood Park.

"I think it was key for him to go out on loan. He looks a bit stockier. He’s come back from Blackburn, probably learnt a lot. He looked comfortable. That will stand him in good stead to come back because he has that experience.”

Elliott had spent the majority of his loan campaign playing off the right side of a forward three. A position that allows him to come inside and use his wand of a left foot.

However, as Klopp has experimented in the early fixtures of Liverpool's pre-season camp, Elliott has been exclusively deployed in a centre-midfield position.

It remains to see where Elliott will play in the upcoming campaign, but playing centrally could allow the prodigy to stay at Anfield as he looks to carry on his exponential development.
