Harvey Elliott ban: Liverpool youngster suspended for mocking Harry Kane in video

Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott has been hit with a 14-day ban by the Football Association over the posting of 'abusive and/or insulting' video on social media.

A clip of Elliott using ableist language to mock Tottenham striker and England captain Harry Kane emerged shortly after he secured a move to Anfield from Fulham this summer.

The 16-year-old has also been ordered to complete a face-to-face education course and pay a £350 fine after being found guilty of an aggravated breach of rule E3.

The teenager subsequently released a statement apologising for the misstep, which read: "I would just like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused on the back of a video of me currently circulating on the internet.

“The video was taken whilst messing around with friends in a private environment and was not directed at any individual but I realise that my actions were both immature and senseless.

“I would like to stress that the contents of the video do not represent who I am as a person or how I’ve been brought up, and I truly am sorry.”

Elliott subsequently admitted the charge brought by the FA, rejecting the opportunity to request a personal hearing.

And a three-man panel have now found that he should serve a two-week ban from football that will run until October 24.

The FA's written reasons for the ban also reveal that club captain Jordan Henderson spoke to Elliott about the impact of his actions.

An LFC spokesperson said: "Harvey’s apology was sincere, immediate and unequivocal. He has acknowledged privately and publicly his actions were wrong.

"Given his age when this indiscretion was committed - in a private setting and prior to signing for us - we will continue to work with Harvey on an educational basis as relates to his conduct.

"He has already demonstrated to us a willingness to learn and live up to the values and conduct expected of a Liverpool player."
