Hartlepool United's Jamie Sterry makes transfer decision after Notts County interest

Notts County look to have missed out on a move for Hartlepool United full-back Jamie Sterry amid claims he is set to sign a new contract at Victoria Park.

Sterry was wanted by a string of EFL clubs including Oldham Atheltic and Sunderland with the Magpies also hoping they could lure him to Meadow Lane.

But the full-back is now set to remain at Victoria Park with Atheltic writer Chris Waugh reporting he has agreed a two-year contract extension.

Nottinghamshire Live revealed how the Magpies had been interested in the former Newcastle defender with the Sunderland Echo also reporting Notts had even offered him accommodation as part of the deal.

Notts' move to sign Sterry underlines the club's plans in the transfer market having signed centre-back Kyle Cameron from Torquay and Frank Vincent following his release from Bournemouth.

Head coach Ian Burchnall offered an update on Friday about the club's plans to bolster the squad saying they are working on signing "ambitious targets".

Notts have already had a decent squad in place after a host of players committed their futures to the club in Sam Slocombe, Connell Rawlinson, Michael Doyle, Jim O'Brien, Adam Chicksen and Dion Kelly-Evans.

They were all due to report back for pre-season training today ahead of Notts' first pre-season friendly of the summer at the weekend when they face Coalville.
