Hartlepool United lose top scorer to injury ahead of Bristol Rovers' visit to Victoria Park

For a team that has not won on the road since December, Bristol Rovers will take any boost they can get ahead of a long away trip.

And on Saturday, they will face a Hartlepool United side without top scorer Tyler Burey as Joey Barton's Gas pursue a third win in succession after EFL Trophy and League Two successes over Cheltenham Town and Crawley Town respectively.

Burey has been Pools' star man since winning promotion to League Two via the National League play-offs, scoring three goals and notching an assist in five appearances.

But the 20-year-old, on loan from Millwall, suffered a hamstring injury in the defeat against Tranmere at the weekend that is likely to require surgery and three months on the sidelines.

"After receiving a scan this morning, the club can confirm that Tyler Burey will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines," a Hartlepool spokesman said.

"Tyler will see a surgeon tomorrow where more information on his injury will become available. Everyone at the club wishes Tyler a healthy and speedy recovery."

“It’s never ideal and things are set to challenge you," Pools boss Dave Challinor told the Hartlepool Mail.

"We can’t complain as it’s part of football – injuries and suspensions – and we’ve got to deal with things as best we can.

"One person’s suffering is another person’s opportunity. It’s up to the players in the group to pose us questions through the week to decide who plays at the game next weekend.”

Loan striker Will Goodwin, a teammate of Gas defender Connor Taylor at Stoke City, is likely to start in Burey's absence.
