Harthill Royal boss rues missed first-half chances in defeat to Stoneyburn

Harthill Royal boss David Carmichael acknowledged his side expected a challenging second-half performance from Stoneyburn at what was a blustery Gibbshill Park on Saturday, writes Callum McCormack.

Harthill were perhaps unfortunate not to have made more of their first-half chances before succumbing to four second half goals as they fell to a 4-0 defeat in the East of Scotland Division Three clash.

He said: "We're disappointed, in the first-half we were creating chances and the defence was secure. However, if you don't score you know you're going to face a difficult second-half against the wind, which we did.”

“They came out of the traps early and scored two big goals which we couldn’t come back from”.

Carmichael says that despite the disappointing result, he believes his side are on the right track, adding: "Disappointed, however, we’ve got to take positives from every game. We are creating chances, the only thing we’re not doing is putting the ball in the back of the net.

"So onwards and upwards. We’re sure with a few tweaks here and there, we’ll get on the path again.”

Next up for Harthill Royal, they host West Calder United on Wednesday night.
