Hartcliffe retail park could get new food court and bar

A new food court and bar looks to be lining up to replace Pizza Hut at Imperial Retail Park in Hartcliffe.

Gourmet 4, a food court offering a range of different cuisines, has applied to take over the former Pizza Hut site after it closed in 2019.

Based in nearly all major cities in England, Gourmet 4 now plans to open in Bristol - with a "food marketplace" also coming to Abbeywood Retail Park in Stoke Gifford, according to its website.

Its website states: “Our mission is to get customers back into restaurants, by housing multiple, new current food brands into one restaurant-like a food court.”

It says the growth of online delivery services like Deliveroo and UberEats has “radically changed the expectations of customers".

Food brands on offer at existing Gourmet 4 sites include 3 Amigos, Smokey Joe’s, Pizzaro and Saucy Chicks.

Although the Hartcliffe site has not yet appeared under its location list, a licensing application in Gourmet 4's name has been submitted to Bristol City Council.

It states: "The unit used to bepizza hut, Gourmet 4 intentions are to follow a very similar operating schedule seeking to mimic the previous license terms."

The application seeks permission to sell alcohol until midnight at the latest, and offer late-night refreshment until half past midnight at the latest.

Gourmet 4 has been approached for comment.

Pizza Hut suddenly shut in December 2019 at the Hartcliffe retail park, citing “customer demand” as the reason for its closure.

Customers were directed to the Aspects Leisure Park restaurant in Longwell Green, with staff relocated where possible.

A spokesperson said at the time: “We continually evaluate the location of our restaurants to ensure they are in the best possible areas to meet consumer demand and decided to close our restaurant in Imperial Park, Bristol, which closed on 21st December."

The Pizza Hut in Imperial Park shot to fame in 2017 when a customer went in to order food, and found the restaurant deserted.

He began broadcasting a Facebook Live, fearing something untoward had happened, and went back into the staff area, and found two members of staff in a back room. The video went viral, and caused a great deal of controversy.
