Hartcliffe garages 'exploded' in blaze thought to be 'accidental'

A garage fire that broke out in the Hartcliffe area of Bristol over the weekend has been labelled “accidental” by the fire service.

Huge plumes of smoke were seen billowing over the city after the garage fire broke out on Saturday (August 14).

Avon Fire and Rescue were called to the Tynte Avenue address at 9.23am and found two garages ablaze.

A witness of the fire who lives nearby the site said the garages “exploded”.

They said: "We had three fire engines. Everybody is fine, just all shaken up quite a bit."

The crews from Bedminster and Temple used two hose reel jets, one 45mm covering jet, two thermal imaging cameras and two positive pressure ventilation fans to extinguish the blaze.

Four of the firefighters in attendance at the incident wore breathing apparatus for safety.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said the cause of the fire is “thought to be accidental”.
