An illuminated life-sized deer sculpture made from 2,000 plastic bottles has been created in the West End to encourage shoppers to recycle or reuse their waste.
The installation at St James’s Church Gardens off Piccadilly was designed by artist Faith Bebbington and has been named “Hart of London.”
It includes “tap donation” technology that allows passers by to donate to the St. James’s Church charity at the tap of their payment card. It lights up with every tap received, which will automatically donate £3 to the charity.
The sculpture, commissioned by the Heart of London business group and created with waste management company Veolia and Westminster City Council, will be in place from December 2 to January 6.
Faith Bebbington said: “The white deer or hart has made many appearances in fantasy literature and it’s exciting to bring this enchanting creature to life during the magical Christmas season.”
