Harry Winks will struggle to break back into Tottenham squad with Spurs duo in solid form

Harry Winks has played just 63 minutes of Premier League football so far this season and may find it hard to get more game time.

Nuno Espirito Santo brought the midfielder on in the 91st minute in their 1-0 win against Wolves, while Winks made his first Premier League start of the season against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Tottenham suffered their first defeat of the season when they travelled to Selhurst Park as they lost 3-0 to Patrick Vieira's side.

The Lilywhites boss was criticised for his defensive line-up against Palace. Harry Winks was included in midfield, alongside Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp.

Both Skipp and Hojbjerg have started in every Premier League game in this campaign so far and have all put on solid performances.

However, when the 25-year-old was also brought into that midfield, fans believed it was too defensive, especially against opposition such as Crystal Palace.

The north London club only had two shots the whole game, which seemed to prove that this defensive starting XI didn't give the service needed in the attacking half.

The English midfielder came off after 60 minutes and in his hour on the pitch, he didn't do much to make an impact on the game.

Winks was one of many Spurs players who had interest from other clubs during the summer transfer window.

Among these clubs were Aston Villa and Everton but with Tottenham wanting £40million for him, it didn't go much further than interest.

Former goalkeeper Paddy Kenny revealed his thoughts on the price tag wanted for the midfielder.

“It’s ridiculous money...I think this just shows you that the game’s gone," he said to Football Insider.

"He has not been a regular, week in, week out for a while, so £40m is crazy."

“If they are trying to move him on, I would be shocked if they got anywhere near that amount of money for him,” he added.

Winks played 90 minutes in both Europa Conference League qualifying games but didn't get any minutes in the first group game of the competition.

If the likes of Skipp, Hojbjerg and Dele Alli continue their solid performances in midfield, the Englishman may struggle to break into the Tottenham team.

He may be used in the European competition and Carabao Cup, to give aforementioned players a rest, but he will have to up his game if he wants to be considered as a regular for the Premier League.
