Harry Winks urged to make Tottenham decision as Jose Mourinho issues Gareth Bale update

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Thursday, December 24.

Bent urges Everton to move for Winks

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes Everton should make a January move for midfielder Harry Winks.

The Toffees have been linked with a move for Winks - who is out of favour with Spurs as things stand - and Bent has urged the Liverpool-based club to make a move for the England international.

The former Spurs centre-forward told Football Insider: "I like Harry Winks, he’s definitely somebody that can get about the pitch, has got legs, can pass the ball and is not afraid get stuck his foot in as well.

"That would be a very good signing, that would make more sense to me than a Khedira. I know people are going to say: 'Oh Khedira, Champions League,' but we need to look at the here and now.

"Here and now, Harry Winks is fit, he gets about the pitch, he’s an international so to me it makes a lot more sense."

Mourinho upset with Alli

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has admitted he was upset with Dele Alli following his contribution in Stoke City's goal last night.

Spurs were eventual 3-1 winners, but the Potters did equalise after Alli tried a flick that failed and allowed the Championship side to break and find the net.

Mourinho said: "Yes. For me a player who plays in that position is a player that has to link and create and not create problems for his own team.

"They got us in counter attack, so yes I was upset. First-half, we were solid. They didn't touch ball, have a shot, have a corner. Instead of killing the game we kill ourselves. After that was a moment we needed stability and attitude."

Bale injury update

Mourinho has revealed that Gareth Bale knew straight away when coming in at half-time that he wouldn't be able to continue.

Bale was a half-time substitution for Spurs, after giving his side the lead with a brilliantly placed header, and the Tottenham manager has delivered more detail on the Welshman's condition.

Mourinho thinks the problem was to do with the loanee's calf: "Yeah, it was his decision.

"Something he felt in the last part of the first half and he didn't want to come out before the second half so he stayed.

"While he was walking to the dressing room he told me immediately that he couldn't come for the second half.

"I don't know (what the injury was). Something I think with the calf. I'm not sure as at that time I just wanted to reorganise the team and make the change."
