Harry Winks targeted by Man United and Man City after being left 'confused' by Jose Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is being lined up by Manchester United and Manchester City, according to latest reports.

Spurs' number eight has completed 90 minutes just twice since Jose Mourinho's arrival in north London.

Having established himself as a key member of Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI, questions have been raised about whether the deep-lying playmaker suits Mourinho's typical style of play.

However, he was named in the starting XI during Sunday's 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup but was taken off after an hour following an injury to his ankle.

Middlesbrough 1-1 Tottenham: Jose Mourinho press conference

With the January transfer window open once again, latest reports from The Athletic have revealed that Winks is on the radar of both Manchester clubs.

The report claims that senior officials inside Manchester United have cited the 23-year-old as a potential answer to their current midfield problems, whilst Winks has been 'left in the dark' over his recent omissions from the team.

City, meanwhile, are set to reshuffle their squad in the summer with David Silva set to depart at the end of his contract.

Fernandinho, similarly, could leave and at the age of 35, City are looking for replacements for the Brazilian midfielder.

Winks' possession-based games in said to have impressed Guardiola and he feels the midfielder could be a perfect fit as competition to Rodri in the pivot of City's midfield.
