Harry Winks sold, Harry Kane stays - Tottenham fans name ideal 2021/22 squad before transfers

It took more than 60 days but Spurs finally secured the replacement for Jose Mourinho in the form of fellow Portuguese Nuno Espirito Santo.

After a disappointing seventh-placed finish last season Espirito Santo has plenty of work to do over the summer, reshaping and preparing the Tottenham squad, aiming to get back into contention for the top four.

But before incoming transfers come into play, the club could do with making decisions on players already in the squad, to balance the books financially.

So football.london asked Tottenham fans about some of the players linked with transfers this summer, and in particular who fans think the club should keep a hold of, send out on loan or cash in and sell.

The ones to keep

Out of the nine players we polled Spurs fans over, seven of them were voted to be kept in the squad.

Most important for Spurs fans to keep this summer was Toby Alderweireld, with 84% of voters wanting him to stay at the club, despite being linked with a move away.

And there doesn't seem to be a temptation to cash in on Harry Kane and use the money to rebuild the squad, as 78% of voters want to keep the captain compared to 21% who think he should be sold - so plenty of love left for Spurs' main man despite his apparent desire to depart.

Other popular figures were Dele Alli and Japhet Tanganga, both for different reasons looking to re-establish themselves in the Tottenham side, and they have the backing of fans with 75% of voters wanting to keep them both at the club.

Spurs fans don't want to see 21 year old Ryan Sessegnon go back on loan, as 68% of voters want to keep him at the club compared to just 17% who'd like to see him loaned out again after his stint at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty still have roles to play at the club according to fans, with 59 and 55% of voters wanting them to be kept at the club.

The ones to sell

Most surprisingly perhaps is the opinion around academy graduate Harry Winks. With 173 appearances behind him and having been at the club since 2002, it seems the 25 year old has lost favour with Tottenham fans after not really kicking on from the promise he showed earlier in his career.

In fact, 68% of fans think it's time to part ways with Winks, the joint second highest behind Moussa Sissoko, who 77% of voters want to see moved on.

Joining him on that number is Erik Lamela, who although has had some great highlights in his career, notably last season's goal in the North London derby, has failed to maintain truly high levels of performances.
