Harry Winks posts emotional message about his injury but has positive news for Spurs fans

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has posted a message to the fans about the surgery he has needed to have but is remaining positive about playing again this season.

The 23-year-old underwent groin surgery on Monday with the club stating that he will be monitored by medical staff as he continues his recovery before commencing rehabilitation.

It was widely assumed that Winks season was over, but he posted a message on social media later in the day after his procedure,

"I'm absolutely gutted that I've needed to have surgery at such a vital point in our season," he said.

"We've tried everything to avoid this action but I’m very hopeful that this is not the end of the season for me yet in what has been a great year for the team and me personally.

"I will be doing everything in my power to get back as quickly as possible.  Thanks to everyone for the well wishes too, it really means a lot. #coys"

If Spurs can beat Ajax over two legs in the Champions League semi-finals then they would play either Barcelona or Liverpool on June 1 in Madrid in the final.

It could be that Winks is hoping he would be fit for that showpiece game if Tottenham can triumph over their Dutch opponents.
