Harry Winks has said it is down to him to prove to Jose Mourinho that he deserves more game time at Tottenham.
The Spurs midfielder has had a difficult season so far, with the game against Wycombe his 18th appearance of the season in all competitions for Tottenham.
Winks has found his opportunities limited due to the form of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele, with the England international largely restricted to appearances in cup competitions in recent weeks.
As such, to score the crucial second goal for Spurs in a fourth round battle with Championship strugglers Wycombe was a timely reminder from the 24-year-old ahead of a busy run of fixtures for Mourinho's Tottenham side.
It was only Winks' second goal of the season, after a long-range effort against Ludogorets in the Europa League, and he is hoping for more of the same as he reflected on the hard-fought win at Adams Park.
“It was a tough game. They [Wycombe] are a good side and they made it difficult for us, going right to the end, but thankfully it didn’t go to extra time," he said, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live.
“You never know what is going to happen, we had a lot of opportunities, but we didn’t take them.
“The belief is there though and we kept going to the final whistle, and luckily that paid off for us.
“It is something I have been working on in training, and I am happy to score whenever I get the chance.
“I have said all season, it is difficult not to get that regular game time to build up that momentum.
“But when I get the opportunity, I have to take the chance and that’s down to me. When I get the opportunity I have to take it, I have to perform well and just keep fighting and playing well.”
