Harry Winks has a message for the Tottenham fans after captaining the side vs Wolves

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has described it as an honour to captain Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League game against Wolves.

The England international was handed the armband in the absence of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who missed the game through injury.

It turned out to be a disappointing afternoon for Jose Mourinho's men though, as Wolverhampton Wanderers came from behind to claim a 3-2 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That lifted Wolves above Spurs in the race for the top four in the Premier League, with Nuno Espirito Santo's side now two points ahead of Tottenham, who dropped to seventh.

Mourinho's men now trail London rivals Chelsea by five points in the race for the top four, with the Blues currently occupying fourth spot on 45 points from 28 games.

But despite the result, Winks has spoken of his pride at wearing the captain's armband for the game in north London in a post on social media.

Posting on Instagram, he said: "Definitely not the result our performance deserved. On a personal note I’m very humbled and honoured to have captained the team today."

Winks has become a key player for Mourinho since he took charge in north London, with the game against Wolves his 31st appearance of the campaign for Tottenham.

The 24-year-old has now made 133 appearances for Spurs in all competitions since making his debut in 2014.
