Harry Winks and Tyrone Mings set to start as Gareth Southgate makes England changes

Gareth Southgate is preparing to ring the changes - with Harry Winks set to get his chance in midfield and Tyrone Mings set to make his Three Lions debut.

England boss Southgate admitted Declan Rice missed training on Sunday with the West Ham midfielder understood to be suffering from a cold.

Southgate and his coaching staff are big admirers of Winks and see him as a big part of England’s future so this will be an opportunity to stake his claim.

But Southgate wants to shake-up his starting XI after the Euro 2020 qualifying defeat to Czech Republic on Friday night ahead of their clash with Bulgaria.

Tottenham midfielder Winks would offer England more mobility as Southgate looks at also changing his line-up in defence.

Villa defender Mings could come in for Michael Keane while Ben Chilwell will start at left back with Danny Rose suspended while Trent Alexander-Arnold also a contender to start ahead of Kieran Trippier.

Southgate is generally reluctant to make wholesale changes but Marcus Rashford and Ross Barkley could also come into the line-up as England look for a big response.

England’s players were alarmed at how long and direct they went on Friday night as they chased the game and Southgate will be anxious to get back to his tried and trusted tactics.

Southgate remains disappointed by the loss in Prague, but insists England will bounce back.

"I think we have a very honest group," the England boss said. "They are very self-reflective. They know, they don't need me to tell them when they haven't played at the level they can.

"The key is always, OK, we have to recover quickly from the result. There's no point us moping around and feeling sorry for ourselves.

"We all are responsible for the result.

"I am the manager, I take the ultimate responsibility and then we have to move forward and be prepared for the game tomorrow.

England (probable): Pickford; Alexander-Arnold, Maguire, Mings, Chilwell; Winks, Henderson, Barkley; Rashford, Sterling, Kane.
