Harry Wilson set for Cardiff City move - full details and loan fee Liverpool will receive

Liverpool winger Harry Wilson is set to join Cardiff City on loan.

The Reds had been looking to offload the Wales international on a permanent deal this window, but saw Burnley walk away from negotiations before the end of the European transfer deadline earlier this month.

Liverpool had initially been looking for around £20million for Wilson, but the 23-year-old remained on Merseyside after no club met the valuation before the window closed on October 5.

The Premier League champions rejected an offer of £12m plus £3m in add-ons from Burnley before the Clarets ended negotiations.

After heading out on international duty with Ryan Giggs' Dragons, Wilson returned to Merseyside to interest from both Swansea and Cardiff this week ahead of the domestic deadline on Friday evening.

The Swans were reportedly unable to table the right financial package to take Wilson to the Liberty Stadium before Cardiff swooped amid contact from a host of other clubs in the Championship.

The Reds held talks with Wilson and his representatives where it was decided that a temporary move back to his homeland was the preferred choice.

Liverpool will receive a loan fee of £1.2m as the versatile wideman prepares to move back into the Championship where he has already spent time on loan with Hull City and Derby County.

Wilson made his senior debut for the Reds in the Carabao Cup defeat to Arsenal at the beginning of the month, but the Reds had been eager to ensure any departure this year would be a permanent one.

However, Liverpool officials now feel a short-term move away from Anfield represents the best option for all parties with Wilson set to be given the chance to show what he can do at senior level in the Welsh capital.

The Reds will feel they will have more chance of securing a permanent buyer for Wilson if he performs in the Championship rather than playing out his time at Liverpool with the Under-23 side.

The club's exit from the Carabao Cup, the re-emergence of Xherdan Shaqiri and the signing of Diogo Jota meant Wilson faced a massive uphill task to force his way into Jurgen Klopp's thinking for the season.

After being left out of the club's Champions League squad earlier this month, the writing was on the wall for Wilson.
