In the newly revamped The Face magazine, Harry Styles has opened up about his creative process, as stars including Elton John praise him for "taking risks."
In a new shoot by American artist and fashion photographer Collier Shorr, Styles discusses the messages he sends through his work with The Face's US editor Trey Taylor:
"I’m not always super-outspoken" he says, "but I think it’s very clear from choices that I make that I feel a certain way about lots of things. I don’t know how to describe it. I guess I’m not… I want everyone to feel welcome at shows and online. They want to be loved and equal, you know? I’m never unsupported, so it feels weird for me to overthink it for someone else.”
In the issue Sir Elton John and Stevie Nicks, who has performed with Styles, also discuss his influence. "I love how he takes chances and risks", says Sir Elton, while Nicks talks about the change in Styles' music from his One Direction days.
“It’s not like his last album. It’s not like anything One Direction ever did. It’s pure Harry, as Harry would say. He’s made a very different record and it’s spectacular.”
Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele - who cast Harry as a face of the brand - also lavishes praise on the star. “He was as attractive as James Dean and as persuasive as Greta Garbo" he says, "He was like a Luchino Visconti character, like an Apollo: at the same time sexy as a woman, as a kid, as a man... Of course, Harry is not aware of this.”
Styles has found phenomenal success since leaving One Direction, winning critical praise for his music and out-earning his 1D bandmates with an estimated £60 million net worth.
The Face, which once launched a young Kate Moss to stardom and went out of print in 2004, returns this month with four new cover stars: Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, Rosalia and Tyler, the Creator.
