Tell all: Harry is set to give two interviews ahead of his memoir’s release, following his Netflix documentary with wife Meghan
(Picture: Netflix)Prince Harry’s claim that the King had shown “no willingness” to repair the family rift is wrong, according to sources ahead of the publication of his memoir.
Speaking in an interview to promote the book, the Duke of Sussex suggested he blamed his father and brother for the breakdown in relations. He said: “They’ve shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile. I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back”.
The Sussexes are said to be upset by how they were treated after the death of the Queen when Harry was reportedly not personally contacted by the King before a public statement was released.
There was also tension over his right to wear military uniform like a working royal.
But those close to the King insist he has always made clear how much he loves both of his sons, keeping communication channels open despite the increasingly tense relationship with Harry since he and Meghan quit as working royals and moved to California.
The King is understood not to have watched their Netflix documentary and will not read Harry’s book Spare when it is published next week.
But he has stayed in contact with his son, including several meetings during last year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
He is said to be “saddened” by the couple’s criticism of the royal family but sources have made it clear he has no desire for further acrimony and would welcome his younger son back, insisting they are invited to his coronation.
The Palace is braced for more potentially damaging revelations from two planned interviews — one with ITV and the other with US broadcaster CBS News — given by Harry and to be broadcast on Sunday ahead of his book’s publication on Tuesday.
Publisher Penguin Random House has gone to great lengths to ensure the memoir is not leaked ahead of its publication date with preview copies tightly controlled.
