Harry Redknapp has revealed that his son Jamie’s split from wife Louise was “sad” for the whole family, as he and wife Sandra “absolutely loved her.”

The 72-year-old I’m A Celebrity champion opened up about the divorce in a new interview with Jamie Theakston and Lucy Horobin on Heart London’s breakfast show.

“I mean, I love Lou and I was sad when it all went wrong. I really was,” he told the presenters.

“Me and Sandra absolutely loved her and her mum is still great - she knows Sandra talks to her mum all the time, Lynne – she’s lovely.

“So yeah, it was sad, but that’s life innit. What can you do? These things happen don’t they?”

The football manager, who recently helped a team of former England legends get back into shape for ITV show Harry’s Heroes, also revealed that Jamie turns to his mother for romantic advice, while he prefers to stay out of it.

“I’ll leave it to his mum,” he said, when asked whether the father and son discuss the latter’s love life.

“She asks him them questions [sic]. I don’t get involved.

“I sort of try to avoid it. I just let him get on with it. What can I do now, you know?

“I know he talks to his mum about things. I say, ‘What is he up to, anything?’ ‘No.’ She won’t tell me.”

Louise and Jamie married in 1998 on a luxury yacht in Bermuda and have two sons, Charley and Beau.

The singer filed for divorce from her husband in 2017, saying that the marriage had irretrievably broken down because of Jamie’s “unreasonable behaviour.”

Last month, she insisted that although the divorce had been “tough,” the former footballer remains her “best friend.”

“It’s been really tough but things happen,” she said. “I saw him yesterday and it was all good.”
