Harry Redknapp's wife released from hospital after former football boss accidentally 'ran her over'

Harry Redknapp’s wife has been released from hospital after the former Premier League manager ran her over with his Range Rover in a “freak accident”.

The football pundit was dropping Sandra Redknapp at the shops in the Westbourne area of Bournemouth when he drove off with her coat trapped in the door, witnesses told The Sun

Witnesses told how the 69-year-old screamed with pain on the pavement after being dragged along the road, leaving her bleeding heavily and suffering serious injuries to her foot.

Speaking to the BBC, Redknapp said: “It was just a freak accident you know.”

“Sandra went across the road and unfortunately she had gone behind the car to cross over the road and as I went to drive off I drove over her ankle.

“It's lucky, if the full weight of the car had gone over the ankle god knows what would have happened to her. We're ok."

The former Bournemouth, West Ham and Portsmouth boss said his wife of 49-years had an operation on her ankle that had gone well.

The couple returned home 24 hours after the accident took place and his wife was pictured with her right leg in a cast walking on crutches.

A South Western Ambulance spokesman said they were called to Poole Road in in the Westbourne area, at 11:49.
