Harry Redknapp rescues drunken Gazza from out-of-control bender in restaurant

Harry Redknapp rescued drunken Paul Gascoigne from an out-of-control bender this week.

Gazza was “off his head” and crashing around a restaurant when the former soccer manager leapt in.

A witness said: “Harry was a real hero. He just sprang into action.

“Gazza was in a really bad way. He was off his head, stumbling all over the place.”

Harry, 72, bundled the one-time England player into his car and drove him home.

Harry, winner of last year’s I’m A Celebrity TV show, was having a meal with wife Sandra at their favourite Chinese restaurant when Gazza lurched in.

Harry, 72, invited the former Premier league star to join them at the upmarket 1805 restaurant in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Harry tried ordering platters of food to help the fallen idol sober up, but Gascoigne kept swearing and falling over.

Harry, who had been at a fans’ meet-and-greet near his luxury home, then paid the bill.

Finally Harry managed to bundle Paul into his car and drove him to his nearby home.

An onlooker told the Sunday People: “It was an extraordinary scene.

“It was totally random. Gazza hadn’t made any arrangement to meet Harry and his wife. He just bumped into them.

“Harry was really concerned at the state of Gazza.

“He invited him over to join him and Sandra without a moment’s hesitation and set about ordering piles of food to try to sober him up.

“Gazza was falling about the place but Harry eventually managed to get him into his car and got him home.

“They have known each other for years and Harry was really upset to see him like that..”

The 1805 is a favourite of the players in Premier League team AFC Bournemouth.

Harry, who lives five miles away in Sandbanks, Poole, used to manage the side.

A restaurant staff member said: “Paul burst in at about 9.45pm and was very, very drunk Thankfully it was late so not many customers were disturbed. Mr Redknapp was very calm while Paul seemed agitated until they convinced him to join them.

“I don’t know what Harry was saying but it seemed to work.”
