Harry Redknapp pinpoints what makes Chelsea's 'main man' Mason Mount 'a nightmare' for defenders

Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp says both Mason Mount and Jorginho are Chelsea's 'consistent' players that could go a long way in winning the club another Premier League title.

The duo were pivotal in helping the Blues end their mini rot at the weekend with a laboured but crucial 3-2 win against Leeds United in the Premier League.

Both players scored high on football.london's player ratings from the contest at Stamford Bridge between the two bitter rivals and therefore it is not a surprise to see Redknapp select both in his team of the week from gameweek 16 of the season.

Redknapp stated that Mount has been the key player at Stamford Bridge for some time, and that the timings of his runs into the box make him a huge problem for defenders.

Speaking to BetVictor, Redknapp said on both players: "For a few weeks now, Mason Mount has been the main man for Chelsea, The goals have started to flow, and he got another in Chelsea’s dramatic win against Leeds.

"He’s finding a lot of joy making late runs from midfield, and let me tell you, it’s a nightmare to defend that. He’ll be a big player for Chelsea no matter what happens this season.

"The ever-reliable Jorginho really stepped up for Chelsea on Saturday. You’ll have those types of matches now and again in the Premier League, and Chelsea will feel that was a massive three points at home to Leeds.

"Other than scoring his two penalties, the Italian had an excellent match. You won’t find many players that are more consistent than him, he’s brilliant in there week in, week out for the Blues."

It is no surprise to see Redknapp select both in his team of the week as his views align well with those of manager Thomas Tuchel, who was waxing lyrical on the duo in his post-match press conference on Saturday afternoon.

Keeping both fit during these times where there are multiple injuries to key Blues players in the current roster during this festive period is imperative if the the current European champions are to have any chance of winning the 2021/22 Premier League title.

According to FBref.com, both Jorginho and Mount ranked within the top five in the Chelsea starting line up for carries of the ball on the Stamford Bridge pitch in this contest with 67 being completed between the pair, and six of those being counted as progressive.

Therefore demonstrating the drive and important function that each player has in their respective midfield position in Tuchel's usual starting XI.
