Harry Redknapp hoping to land Coronation Street role after EastEnders cameo

Football legend Harry Redknapp is making an EastEnders cameo and now wants to land a part in rival soap Coronation Street.

Just weeks after Danny Dyer’s daughter Dani made a guest appearance in EastEnders, fellow famous face Harry is heading to the fictional London borough of Walford.

The former West Ham manager has even joked he is trying to "perfect" his Manchester accent so he can land a role in Corrie following his cameo in EastEnders.

He is making an appearance in the Queen Vic pub as a friend of a new character Rocky – played by Brian Conley.

In an episode set to air on Friday July 9, Harry will play himself and shock to Hammers fan Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer, by arriving at the Queen Vic during a Euros 2020 party with some special news for one Walford youngster.

Harry admits his day filming the BBC One soap has given him a taste for acting.

However, EastEnders will need to have snatch him up quickly if they want to have him on the soap again as he thinks he could be a star on ITV's rival soap Corrie.

In an interview with Inside Soap magazine, he said: "I'd love to return. I'm always available and they had better hurry up, because I'm sure that Coronation Street will be trying to get me now, I'm starting to perfect my Manchester accent!

"But really, I had a great time, and I would love to go back."

The I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winner admits his cameo in Walford was a dream come true because he and his wife Sandra have been fans of EastEnders since it started in 1985.

Although the former West Ham manager admits he will change the channel if there's a big football game on at the same time.

When asked if he is an EastEnders fan, he said: "Yes! My wife never misses an episode - I watch it, but if there's a football match on the other side, I'll be honest, I have to switch.

“But I've followed it over the years, and I remember when it first started all of them years ago, it was so exciting. We've always been fans in the family."

The biggest moment for Harry was finding out about one of the long-held secrets of Albert Square when he turned up to film - the Queen Vic isn’t a real pub.

"I thought it was all real, I didn't realise so that was a surprise," he said. "I thought they must have bought a real square up and used it for filming, I didn't realise the houses have all been built for the show!

"The Queen Vic as well – it was amazing, all great fun and I really enjoyed it."

Barman Mick Carter played by Dani Dyer needs to invite Harry back to the Queen Vic pretty soon before The Rovers Return Inn pub, in Coronation Street becomes his new local.
