Harry Redknapp gives Harry Kane and Daniel Levy verdicts amid failed Tottenham return

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has revealed his surprise at Harry Kane’s recent actions as he aims to seal a move away from the club.

The England captain made clear his intentions to depart north London earlier this summer, with Manchester City emerging as the most likely candidates for his signature.

Since the conclusion of the Euros, no progress had been made on any deal. football.london understands that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is not keen on selling.

However, Kane appeared to take matters into his own hands on Monday by missing his expected return to training for COVID-19 tests and blood work.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Redknapp has admitted his shock at the striker’s actions but has backed him to return sooner rather than later.

He said: "You wouldn’t have expected that. You’d have just thought he’d have turned up and had a meeting with Daniel [Levy] again. I’m sure his advisers are meeting with Daniel [Levy] anyway and got it sorted out.

"I was a bit surprised. I’m sure he’ll come into training today [Tuesday] when the training starts but not the best way to go about it really. He’s so loved at Tottenham, it’d be a shame if that got spoilt. It shouldn’t do because of what he’s done and how much he loves the club."

Whilst there now certainly appears to be some friction at the club regarding Kane’s future, Redknapp has backed chairman Levy to hold firm should no interested club offer the required amount to secure his signature.

"He [Kane] just feels I think now that it’s time to move but he’s got to go about it in the right way. His agents have got to sit down with Daniel [Levy] and try to [sort it out]," Redknapp continued.

"At the end of the day, unless Daniel gets the money that he wants, it isn’t going to happen. If he wants £150million and someone is offering £130million-£140million, it’s not going to get him. Daniel won’t budge."

Kane still has three years remaining on his current contract in north London.
