Harry Redknapp details unlikely reason why wife Sandra 'prefers' him to son Jamie

Harry Redknapp has joked that his beloved wife Sandra prefers him over their football superstar son Jamie, 46.

The I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here champion, 73, opened up on family life during a candid chat on Heart Radio this morning.

During the interview with hosts Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston, Harry and his son went head-to-head in a 'who knows who better' challenge.

The comical game saw the reality TV king detail the unlikely reason why he feels his beloved wife Sandra prefers him over Jamie.

"Oh that's a tough one. I know that Jamie is going to say that she likes him better. But I don't think so.

"I'd say that she prefers me because I make her a brew in the morning. You don't see Jamie getting up first thing to do that do you?".

When the same question was put to him, football superstar Jamie insisted that his dear mum has more of a fondness for him over Harry.

Needless to say he wasn't too pleased when he heard his father's response, but laughed it off, claiming that it was a lie.

"I would definitely win that one I think" Jamie insisted.

During the hilarious game, Harry also admitted that if Jamie wasn't a football star, he would make a successful career as a male model.

This delighted his son, who quipped: "Oh wow. Thanks dad. At least you said one nice thing about me during this game!".

It comes after the former  Tottenham  and Portsmouth manager discussed the difficulties facing footballers once they've retired from the game, admitting it can be a "lonely place".

Speaking about the life of a footballer and the effects it has on one's mental health once it's over, Harry admitted that it can be a really tough transition.

"You come in every day, you walk in the dressing room, you're there with the boys. It's like still being in school really.

"You're just having fun, doing something you love, getting paid to do something you really enjoy and then suddenly it stops.

"In so many cases it's: 'What am I going to do with my life now? I've got no skills to go into anything else', and it can become a very lonely place".

Harry added: "In the public eye, I imagine a little bit like showbusiness, when someone's been doing a job and loses their position and they can't get any work. It can become very difficult".

The football legend lead the latest squad of Harry's Heroes into battle during mental health awareness.
