Harry Redknapp delivers verdict on Tottenham signing Gareth Bale

Tottenham Hotspur signing Gareth Bale will fire them right back into top-four contention, according to Harry Redknapp.

Spurs finished the 2019/20 Premier League campaign in sixth place, seven points adrift the Champions League spots.

After a season of upheaval last time out – with Jose Mourinho replacing Mauricio Pochettino – Tottenham will be looking to push on this term.

With Joe Hart, Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg already through the door, Mourinho wants more in.

Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon to Tottenham

And Spurs are now in talks with Gareth Bale over a sensational return to the club, as well as his Real Madrid teammate Sergio Reguilon.

While Redknapp thinks Tottenham could face a real battle to get back into the top four, the signing of Bale would definitely push them closer.

“It makes them closer to getting into the top four,” he told Sky Sports.

“I don’t see them finishing top four this year but he could make that much difference.

“Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Man United – Arsenal are improving fast, Wolves look strong and Leicester are good.

“I just think Tottenham would struggle to make the top four, but with Gareth coming in it could tip the scale and balance in their favour.”

He added: “I think it’s great for Tottenham, great for the Premier League and great for Gareth.

“He needs to be playing, it’s a waste for Gareth not seeing him play for Real Madrid – he can make a difference for Tottenham as he is such a special talent.”

Bale is currently recovering from a knee knock suffered while away on international duty, and has been dogged by injuries over the last few seasons.

“That is a problem but he’s a great athlete,” Redknapp said. “You look at him and everything about him he’s a complete all-rounder. He’s a short distance runner, a long distance runner, can head, dribble and is a great footballer.

“Hopefully he will come and they will take their time with him. Not rush him for Saturday, midweek, Saturday, midweek. They will probably bed him in slowly.

“I think he’ll be such a boost for Tottenham – and look at the forward line of Son, Harry Kane, Dele Alli it’s a scary attacking line-up.”
