Harry Redknapp backs Mauricio Pochettino to replace Unai Emery at Arsenal

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has insisted that Mauricio Pochettino has every right to become the next Arsenal boss should the opportunity arise.

The Argentine was sacked by Spurs on Tuesday with the club 14th in the Premier League table after 12 matches.

Despite leading the club to their first-ever Champions League final in May, Daniel Levy opted to end Pochettino's five-year stay at the club.

Jose Mourinho was the man through the door 12 hours later and will take charge of Tottenham's clash with West Ham on Saturday with Spurs still awaiting a first away league win since January.

Levy's bold, and in the eyes of many, ruthless decision to wield the axe has left Arsenal fans crying out for a change in the dugout.

The pressure on Unai Emery continues to build with the Gunners sat fifth in the table, nine points behind the top four.

As a result, there has been some suggestions that Pochettino could be the man to replace Emery at the Emirates.

Although it would be a sensational switch across north London, former Spurs boss Redknapp has insisted it's a move that Pochettino would have every right to make.

Alasdair Gold on Jose Mourinho becoming Tottenham boss

Redknapp told Sky Sports: "I don't see why, if that job became available, why shouldn't he go? He's not done anything wrong, he's done his best at Tottenham, the chairman decides to let him go, surely he's within his rights to manage anywhere?

"If he decides he wants to stay and live in London, Arsenal are a big, big club. To take the job, I don't see why he shouldn't take it.

"Like everything, it will be a bit "oh" for the Arsenal fans but he wins a few games and it's all forgotten, you just get on with it.

"He's allowed to go where he wants basically, he's done nothing wrong."
