Harry Potter TV series confirmed, original stars discuss potential roles

In an exciting turn of events for Harry Potter fans, a TV show reboot is in the works! During a recent Harry Potter panel at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida, two beloved stars from the original film series, Matthew Lewis and Jason Isaacs, shared their thoughts on the upcoming project.

Isaacs, known for his portrayal of Lucius Malfoy, revealed that the TV show will start at the beginning of each book, with each book comprising an entire season. However, he humorously suggested that he would love to play the mischievous house elf, Dobby, as it would require minimal makeup and allow him to steal the scene effortlessly. On the other hand, Lewis, who brought Neville Longbottom to life, found it difficult to choose a character to potentially play, as he felt that the original cast did such a fantastic job.

Isaacs continued to tease his former co-star, playfully asking Lewis about the weakest actor in the original films. However, Lewis couldn't settle on a specific role, stating that he was too old to reprise the role of Neville. After some consideration, he expressed his admiration for the character Remus Lupin, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and werewolf, originally portrayed by the incomparable David Thewlis. Lewis admitted that Thewlis' performance could never be surpassed, but if given the opportunity, he would love to step into Lupin's shoes.

News of the Harry Potter TV show was initially announced in April 2023 during a Warner Bros. Discovery presentation. The series is described as a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved book series and is expected to unfold over the next decade. Rowling herself will serve as an executive producer, ensuring the integrity of the original books is maintained. Each season will delve deep into each of the iconic books, offering fans a chance to experience the magic in a whole new way.

Author J.K. Rowling expressed her excitement about the project, stating that she is looking forward to being part of this new adaptation, as it will provide an opportunity for a more comprehensive exploration of the story and characters, only made possible by a long-form television series.

When asked about a potential return to the Harry Potter universe, Daniel Radcliffe, who famously portrayed the titular character, commented that the show is meant to start fresh, allowing the new creators to make their mark without the need for his character to cameo. Radcliffe acknowledged that he is not actively seeking a return to the wizarding world but wished the new ensemble of stars all the luck, saying, 'I'm very excited to have that torch passed. But I don't think it needs me to physically pass it.'

The prospect of a Harry Potter TV show has sparked immense anticipation among fans worldwide. As the series promises to bring the magic and adventures of the books to a new generation of viewers, we can't help but wonder who will be chosen to take on these beloved roles. With the involvement of J.K. Rowling and the commitment to staying true to the source material, it seems that this new adaptation will be an enchanting experience for fans old and new. We eagerly await further updates on this highly-anticipated project.
