Harry Potter star Rupert Grint admits feeling 'suffocated' during filming of movies

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has said filming the franchise was 'suffocating', with the return to set each year like 'groundhog day".

Speaking on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, Grint spoke about his time filming the eight movies - the first of which started when he was aged 11.

Now 32, Rupert Grint shot to fame playing Harry Potter's best pal Ron Weasley between 2001 and 2011, but he said on the podcast it wasn't without its drawbacks.

"There was a time where it felt quite suffocating, because it was heavy going, because it was every day for 10 years in the end," he said.

Only two movies were planned at first, based on the novels penned by Edinburgh author JK Rowling, and Grint said it often felt like "homework" when he realised that he would spend a large chunk of his life devoted to it.

"It just never ended," Rupert candidly admitted.

He added: "Every year, we came back. And it was kind of like Groundhog Day because it was the same sets.

"Sometimes it definitely felt like, ‘I want to do something else. See what else is out there'."

And because of how critical he is of his performances, Rupert said he has only watched each of the movies once, except for the first one which he recently watched for a second times.

Analysing his performances, Grint said he was "so conscious of my face, like, what I'm doing".

But Rupert stressed he had a positive experience, and enjoyed his time on set with the crew and fellow cast members.

"It was a great experience. Such a nice kind of family atmosphere. It was always the same crew we kind of grew up with, so it was a great place to be," he told the podcast host.
