Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis has issued an appeal after his wallet was either lost or stolen in east London.

The actor, who played Neville Longbottom in the film adaptations of JK Rowling’s books, said he did not care about his money or cards being returned.

But he asked that an engraved piece of metal from his wife be sent to him at the address on his driving licence, saying he would then “call it even”.

He said: “Yo, if you stole my wallet in East London yesterday or even if you just found it: it's yours, keep it, have the money, the cards, the lot.

"But the note from my wife engraved on a piece of metal, if you can post that to the address on the driving licence I'd call it evens. Please?”

Lewis, whose Twitter appeal gained more than 1,000 retweets within an hour of posting it, married Angela Jones in May last year.

Fans of the actor called for whoever finds Lewis’s wallet to return it to him, with many using Harry Potter references in their responses.

One commenter wrote: “Accio Matthew’s wallet”. Accio is a spell word used by witches and wizards in the films to summon objects.

Another quoted Luna Lovegood, saying: “Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect.”
