Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe on living with a common physical disorder

Actor Daniel Radcliffe has opened up on his struggles with a physical condition and alcohol in a bid to help others.

The child star shot to fame playing everyone's favourite wizard in the hugely popular Harry Potter franchise - bewitching an entire generation with his acting skills.

But what is less known is that behind the camera, Daniel was battling a neurological disorder that affects his motor skills.

He also went on to have issues with booze.and has told why he is now teetotal.

Now aged 32, Daniel has been in the limelight for decades since first appearing as the boy wizard, based on Edinburgh author JK Rowling's books, as a 12-year-old back in 2001.

MyLondon reports how it would take him until he was 19 to publicly discuss that he has dyspraxia, a condition that means he sometimes struggles with physical coordination.

He told the Mail at the time that he sometimes struggled with simple tasks like tying his shoelaces or writing notes.

He describes the pressures the condition placed on him: “I was having a hard time at school, in terms of being crap at everything, with no discernible talent."

Daniel has attempted to raise the profile of the condition, which is less widely known than other learning difficulties like dyslexia and ADHD despite between 6 and 10 percent of all children showing signs of dyspraxia.

In 2014, Daniel offered encouragement to a 10-year-old girl with dyspraxia while speaking to The Wall Street Journal ’s Speakeasy blog on Facebook live.

“Do not let it stop you,” he said. “It has never held me back, and some of the smartest people I know are people who have learning disabilities.

“The fact that some things are more of a struggle will only make you more determined, harder working and more imaginative in the solutions you find to problems.”

Daniel has also spoken openly about why he's been teetotal speaking about how his alcohol abuse meant that he sometimes showed up to the set of Harry Potter still drunk for the night before.

He told a documentary on Sky Arts that he drank because of fear of failure and to deal with the pressures of fame.

Speaking about the pressure he felt he said: "It is not a real pressure, but it is a pressure of living with the thought, 'Oh, what if all these people are saying I am not going to have a career? What if they are all going to be right and will be laughing and I will be consigned to a bunch of "Where are they now?" lists?'"

In 2010 Daniel went cold turkey saying about his time as a heavy drinker that it made him a "rude bore".

He described: "I was living in constant fear of who I'd meet, what I might have said to them, what I might have done with them, so I'd stay in my apartment for days and drink alone. I was a recluse at 20. It was pathetic – it wasn't me. I'm a fun, polite person, and it turned me into a rude bore."
