Harry Potter 'plot hole' has fans convinced Dumbledore is the real villain

It's been 20 years since the first Harry Potter film was released and fans are still finding plot holes.

Now one person believes they've spotted a pretty major one in Deathly Hallows, the seventh film of the fantasy franchise.

Potter fan Brenna took to TikTok ( @bihli1 ) to share the theory, in which she says Dumbledore is the real villain. In a video that has been viewed more than 1.4 million times, she laid out her argument.

In Deathly Hallows, we see Bill Weasley and Fleur's cottage being used as a safe house for Harry Potter's allies in the wizarding war.

This is because Bill is a "secret keeper", which means he has been selected to hide a secret by means of the Fidelius Charm.

The person who told the secret can then no longer pass on the information that has been given to the secret keeper, and only they (Bill, in this case), can reveal it.

They are then able to tell as many people as they like, but only on a voluntary basis - it must not be tortured or blackmailed out of them.

And as a Weasley, the Order of the Phoenix can trust Bill to keep Harry Potter’s whereabouts hidden.

However, Brenna questioned why Harry's parents, Lily and James, weren't secret keepers of Harry's whereabouts instead.

When Voldemort tried to kill Harry, the couple were forced to go into hiding, and Peter Pettigrew was their secret keeper, who ended up telling Voldemort where they were.

Therefore, fans believe this makes Albus Dumbledore - the Hogwarts headmaster - the true villain as he seemingly orchestrated the events that would see Lily and James killed so that he could use Harry to defeat Voldemort himself.

Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 177,000 likes and 1,600 comments from fans who were quick to share their surprise at the plot hole.

"Because Dumbledore is the villain she didn't mean to write," said one person.

Another wrote: "Dumbledore was such a gaslighter. All this horrible stuff happens to Harry and D tells him it’s because 'I cared for you too much!'"

A third commented: "JK Rowling would be distressed to be asked a question like that."

Someone else put: "This is because Dumbledore needed either Sirius or Remus to go to prison so neither of them could take care of Harry and he could send him to his aunt."

But others weren't convinced by her theory as one person said: "Dumbledore isn't the villain. He's extremely complex but he's all for the greater good. The end goal outweighs the casualties, in his opinion."

"I'm confused why people are saying Dumbledore is a civilian?" asked another. Adding: "He literally offers to be the Potters secret keeper and they turned him down."
