Harry Potter mobile game from creators of Pokemon Go to launch this week

A new Harry Potter themed augmented reality game will be released this week.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will launch in the UK this Friday, June 21 from the creators of Pokemon Go.

The game is based on J.K. Rowling's book series and Warner Bros films.

Players will be able to virtually immerse themselves in Rowling's magical world, overlaid on their real-world "muggle" surroundings, using their smartphones, the Mirror reports .

Each player must choose whether to take on the role of an Auror (best at spellcasting and defeating dark wizards), a Magizoologist (best at tackling magical beasts), or a Professor (best at using their "deep magical knowledge" to debilitate foes).

As they wander around different neighbourhoods and cities, players will embark on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters from the Wizarding World.

They will also be able to visit "Fortresses" - the equivalent of "Gyms" in  Pokémon Go  - where they can team up with other players to take on enemies.

However, unlike in Pokémon Go , players are all on the same side, working together as part of the "Statue of Secrecy (SOS) Task Force" to hunt down and make safe dangerous artifacts littered worldwide.

Mobile phone operator EE is the exclusive telecom launch partner in the UK for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite .

That doesn't mean people on other networks won't be able to play the game, but EE customers will have access to exclusive Harry Potter: Wizards Unite content.

EE locations will appear in the game as sponsored "Inns" and "Fortresses" with higher reward payout and special quests that will be announced at launch.
