Harry Potter Hogwarts love triangle knife attack 'like scene out of a horror film'

A man has told how he feared he would die “like in a horror movie” after a colleague at the castle used in the Harry Potter films stabbed him in the neck.

Kitchen porter Gareth Mallaburn was knifed by dishwasher Brett Fenwick after a love triangle erupted in violence.

Fenwick, 37, had been having an affair with Gareth’s partner Louise Pearce, who also worked at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland – which doubled as Hogwarts in the Potter films.

He launched the attack when Louise, 33, refused to leave Gareth – father of her kids, aged 12, 14 and 15.

Jilted Fenwick burst into their home “like a man possessed”.

He stabbed Gareth, 38, then launched a savage attack on Louise which left her with a patchwork of scars.

After Fenwick was jailed for 25 years, Gareth told the Sunday Mirror: “Brett came into my home and stabbed me in the neck. I took a few steps back in total shock. He said, ‘You don’t know what I’m capable of. I’m going to kill you!’

“I was drenched in blood and it was all over the walls and doors – like a horror film. I thought I was going to die. I felt weak. My body was shutting down. I managed to flee out of the back door.”

The grisly episode came after trained chef Gareth and cleaner Louise had been together 18 years. He gave her a second chance after learning of her affair on Bonfire Night in 2018.

But on Boxing Day, Fenwick flipped after Louise chose Gareth over him.

Boozed up, he and his brother barged into Louise’s home in Alnwick and launched the attacks.

Gareth, who ran 100 yards to his mum’s house to raise the alarm, went on: “I was rushed to hospital and wired up to life support machines. I wasn’t able to see Louise straight away.

"Medics said they had to wait until she was stable before I could visit her. When I saw her I couldn’t stop crying.”

At Newcastle Crown Court, Fenwick admitted attempted murder of Louise and was convicted of wounding Gareth. While he got 25 years, his brother Blaine, 25, got 10 for unlawful wounding.

Gareth said he and Louise tried to fix their relationship after the attack, but it didn’t work.

He said: “We haven’t spoken for months. But I don’t blame her – Brett showered her with gifts. I’ve found it hard to live with the betrayal, but Louise is the mother of my children and I would not have wished that on her.”
