Harry Potter fans can now join Edinburgh's famous Wizard's Trail from home

Harry Potter fans from all over the world flock to take part in a wizardry adventure through the capital and now it is making its big return online.

The Potter Trail which usually features a tour guide in Edinburgh taking fans around the city and showing them sites such as the Elephant House (where JK Rowling used to write) is now providing a zoom tour that you can join from your sofa.

The Daily Record reports how tour guide Richard Duffy, is using a combination of Google Earth and high-resolution images to take people on the magical adventure.

He said: "Your guide will be live over Zoom covering all the locations in Edinburgh that inspired JK Rowling as well as her old writing haunts.

"We aim to keep the magic alive with spell casting, a house point competition and a sorting ceremony."

The Harry Potter Tour was founded in 2012 by students from the Edinburgh University Comedy Society and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Richard added: "All of our guides are still trained comic performers to this day which gives the tour a nice theatricality and humour. And yes, we are all Harry Potter fanatics!"

According to Richard, the online version of the tours has been a total success, he said: "We've run over 100 since the end of April and are actually about as busy as we would have been with real life tours this time last year.

"Going virtual has opened up the whole world as our market. Although we can't wait to get our real life tours started again, we're planning to continue doing virtual ones even once they do."
