Speeding motorists have been hit with a “slow-down” Arresto Momentum spell at a beauty spot that has become a magnet for Harry Potter fans.
A new 40mph speed limit has been introduced at Glenfinnan Viaduct – down from 60mph – to avoid the risk of accidents as fans of the boy wizard cross the road to see the iconic structure. It features in the Harry Potter films as the route to Harry’s Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry.
The West Highland tourist hotspot dubbed the “Harry Potter bridge” attracts thousands of film fans. Now, Transport Scotland have backed local MSP Kate Forbes’s campaign to reduce the 60mph speed limit on a nearby road.

Thousands flock to the area via the A830 to see the iconic viaduct and a monument to fallen Jacobite clansmen. The monument doesn’t have a car park, forcing visitors to walk along and cross the A830 to gain access. Local children must also wait at the side of the road for their school bus pick-up.
Working with Glenfinnan Community Council, the MSP won backing for a 40mph limit and a controlled pedestrian crossing.
Forbes said: “This is the latest step in making visitor access to Glenfinnan easier, safer and more welcoming. As we enter the tourism season again, I hope this means it’s much safer for visitors and locals alike.”
