Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling offers rogue civil service tweeter full year's pay for anti-government post

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has jokingly offered a "year's salary" to the Civil Service worker who posted a tweet branding the UK Government "arrogant and offensive...truth-twisters" from its official account moments after Boris Johnson publicly backed his chief aide over repeatedly breaching the coronavirus lockdown.

Twitter was ablaze on Sunday evening when it appeared a disgruntled member of the @UKCivilService communications team posted the anti-government message as the Prime Minister delivered his latest Downing Street briefing.

Before taking questions from reporters, Johnson stated senior aide Dominic Cummings had acted“responsibly, legally and with integrity,” despite driving his wife and four-year-old son 260 miles to his parents' home in Durham twice - the first time while displaying symptoms of coronavirus.

However a tweet posted by the account, which was swiftly deleted after being shared more than 25,000 times by fellow users, read: "Arrogant and offensive - Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters?"

The Cabinet Office say they have now launched a probe into the post, writing in their own social media statement: "An unauthorised tweet was posted on a government channel this evening. The post has been removed and we are investigating the matter."

However, Hogwarts creator Rowling was one of thousands of social media users signalling their approval of the post, offering the rogue tweeter full pay for their actions.

She wrote: "When you find out who it was, let us know. I want to give them a full year's salary."

The Civil service team is responsible for supporting the UK Government by implementing the policies to deliver crucial public services.

The news comes as nine Tory MPs have also said they don't support Johnson's decision to keep Cummings in his role.

Several other political figures, including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, have also called for the director of the vote leave campaign to be relieved of his duties.
