Harry Newman receives huge injury boost as Leeds Rhinos centre closes in on return

Harry Newman has been given the all-clear to return to the field after scans showed that his leg had fully healed.

The Leeds Rhinos centre went for scans on Wednesday for a new check-up on his leg, with consultants informing him of the good on Thursday.

He is now free to return to full contract training as his long recovery enters the home straight.

21-year-old Newman suffered a horrific double leg break that has kept him out of the game for almost a year.

But, after undergoing scans on Wednesday, results have shown further improvement which has moved him one step closer to playing again.

It's fantastic news for the centre, widely regarded as one of the world's best young prospects. He has enjoyed a blistering start to his career and is in Shaun Wane's England squad of players in contention for the World Cup.

Newman has previously told Leeds Live he remains hopeful of playing for England later in the year, but his first focus is playing well for the Rhinos.

While he is now free to play again, it's likely that Leeds will give him several weeks to get up to match fitness, before being named in Richard Agar's side.

However, his return is now closer than ever, and with Leeds gradually easing out of their season-long injury crisis, it's more promising news with the side currently on a four-game winning run.
