Harry Maguire warned bombs would explode at home unless he quit as Man Utd captain

England football star Harry Maguire was warned that a series of bombs would be detonated at his home unless he quit Manchester Untied.

Police searched his luxury property with a sniffer dog, but failed to uncover anything suspicious.

Detectives are now hunting the person behind the bomb threat, understood to have been included in an email.

Man United skipper Maguire lives in Wilmslow, Cheshire, with his fiancee Fern Hawkins and their daughters, Lillie Saint, three, and Piper Rose, who is one next month.

The family were badly shaken by the threat that came just hours after Harry, 29, played in United’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday.

Fern is said to have been extremely distressed and it is understood she has been comforted by family in Sheffield. But Maguire has told his teammates he has no intention of leaving Old Trafford.

And he is expected to defiantly lead his team on to the pitch as they take on Arsenal in today’s lunchtime kick-off in London.

United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick insisted yesterday the club would be doing everything they could to support him.

He said: “This is another bad sign of the crazy world we’re living in. Obviously I feel very sorry for Harry that he had that terrible experience, but he knows that we’re all behind him - the club, the players, his team-mates.”

On Thursday a spokesman for the footballer said: “In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home.

“He has reported this to the police who are now looking into the matter. The safety of his family is obviously Harry’s number one priority.”
