Harry Maguire 'tells Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who he should sign' as centre-back partner

Harry Maguire has asked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign Brighton star Ben White.

Manchester United are poised to sign a centre-half in the summer as they seek a long-term partner for their captain.

And Maguire has told his manager that the Brighton centre-half is the type of player he wants to play alongside according to  The Transfer Window podcast.

Part of his motivation for wanting to play alongside White is that he is English speaking.

Maguire also believes he will compliment his game given his understanding of the Premier League.

The former Leicester man has been paired with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly this season.

The Swede has been used on a more regular basis, but neither player has been able to nail down a starting spot.

White, who spent last season on loan at Leeds, has been a regular for the Seagulls this season.

Brighton fended off interest in their young defender last summer but may have to do so again.

He signed a new four-year deal which will give the south coast outfit an upper hand in negotiations.

The 23-year-old's ball-playing style is what is expected of a modern day centre-half.

Brighton slapped a £50m price tag on White, but should they get relegated then they may have to accept less.

United have also been linked with Sevilla's Jules Kounde and Pau Torres at Villarreal as they eye another centre-half.

Brighton boss Graham Potter addressed speculation around White earlier this season and claimed they couldn't control the rumour mill.

"I have no worries about Ben getting his head turned," he said.

"He is a level-headed guy who wants to play football and of course he wants to do it at the highest level, just like you want all those players to have those ambitions.

"He gets on with his work and he was totally professional in the summer despite the noise from outside the club, which you can't control."
